Description

This recipe was given to me by my aunt.

Ingredients

At a glance
Vegetarian
Breads/ Buns
Makes
16 pieces
  • 1 ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • ¾ tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp butter or margarine
  • 3/4 cup water
  • pinch of salt
  • **vegetable oil for frying

Methods/steps

  1. Mix all ingredients together (EXCEPT WATER and OIL)
  2. Add water and knead into a dough
  3. Let it stand for 5 minutes
  4. Divide the dough into 4 balls
  5. On a slightly floured surface, roll each ball out to a ¼ inch thickness circle
  6. Using a knife, cut the circle into 4 pieces (one cut horizontially and one cut vertically)
  7. Using a deep pot or pan, heat the oil (about 2-3 cups) until hot
  8. Place each piece of dough into the oil and fry until light-golden brown, then turn over and fry the other side

Additional Tips

*When frying, use a spoon to throw oil on top of the dough that is facing up. This will allow the "bake" to puff up and it will allow for even cooking.
